Esch Road Beach, part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, is a Lake Michigan beach located at the mouth of Otter Creek, offering crystal-clear water, soft sandy shores, and breathtaking views of towering dunes. The north section of the beach, accessed by turning right from the parking lot, is designated as dog friendly. Dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed to the right of Esch Road when facing the water; from Esch Road north to the Lakeshore boundary (south of Empire). The south section of the beach is off-limits to pets to protect nesting piping plovers. No pets are allowed to the left of Esch Road. Directions: Esch Road is about 3 miles south of Empire on M-22. Turn to the west and follow the road about 1 mile to Lake Michigan. You can park along the road and there are bathroom facilities.
