Indian Railways allows dogs of all sizes to travel in trains. Dogs and cats can be carried in the First AC or First-Class compartments, provided the entire 4-berth cabin or 2-berth coupe is booked under a single PNR (Passenger Name Record). Dogs and cats can only travel in First AC or First Class with a reserved compartment or cabin booked exclusively for the pet and owner. Pets are not allowed in sleeper class, second AC, or third AC compartments. For smaller pets like puppies or kittens, they can be carried in any class as long as they are secured in a basket or carrier and the usual booking charges are paid. Taking a pet to a foreign country involves preparation and planning far in advance of your departure date. Requirements for pet travel to a foreign country are set by the destination country. If you are you traveling to another country and bringing along your pet you’ll need to meet the animal health requirements of the country you are visiting.
