Pets on a leash no longer than 6 feet are allowed in some areas of Big Bend National Park. Located in southwest Texas, the park includes the entire Chisos mountain range and a large swath of the Chihuahuan Desert. There are five paved roads in Big Bend, including Chisos Basin Road, six miles long and climbs to 5,679 feet above sea level at Panther Pass before descending into the Chisos Basin. Also, the 30-mile Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive leads to the Castolon Historic District and Santa Elena Canyon. Pets on a leash are allowed in the park, but can only go where your car can go. Pets are not permitted on trails, off roads, or on the river. There is no kennel service in the park.
