Golden Gate National Recreation Area provides trails, beaches, and open spaces for dogs and their owners. GGNRA is the only park in the National Park Service to designate any areas for off-leash dog use. Dogs are permitted on signed trails and specific areas. Dogs must be restrained on a leash or under “voice control” at all times. Dogs are not allowed in park buildings and facilities, including outdoor restrooms and public showers; at Muir Woods or Alcatraz Island; on shuttle buses, public fishing piers, and campgrounds.
