The East Bay Regional Park District spans Alameda and Contra Costa counties in the San Francisco Bay area with more than 120,536 acres in 65 parks and 1,250 miles of trails. Whether you enjoy fishing, swimming, hiking, bicycling, picnicking, nature programs, golf, other active pastimes, or just relaxing in beautiful natural surroundings, there is a park for you. Dogs are allowed in nearly all of the parks. The District remains one of the few public open space agencies in the nation that permits dogs off leash, under voice control, on hundreds of miles of trails. In general, dogs are allowed off-leash in the regional parks, once you are away from the trailheads, as long as the dog is under voice control. If a dog starts chasing wildlife or cattle or has uninvited interactions with other park visitors, the dog has to be put back on leash. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under control at any posted area, parking lot, picnic site, lawn or developed area and all areas where grazing animals are present. No dogs or other animals are permitted at any swimming pool, beach, wetland or marsh, or designated nature study area.
