The Western Maryland Rail Trail is a 22.5-mile long shared-use asphalt-paved rail trail from Fort Frederick to Pearre Station. Beginning approximately one-half mile west of historic Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool, the Western Maryland Rail Trail (WMRT) winds along the Potomac River through rolling farmland, woodlands, and rural towns to its terminus at the southern slope of Sideling Hill Ridge. Pets are allowed on the Western Maryland Rail Trail.
