Australia does not have one national rule for pets on public transport. Every state and territory makes its own call — and the rules change not just between states, but between the different types of transport inside each state. In Melbourne you can bring dogs and some other animals with you on public transport under certain conditions. Small animals can travel with you on trains, trams and buses in a suitable animal container. Dogs can travel with you on trains, as long as they’re on a lead and wearing a muzzle. In Sydney pet animals may be allowed to travel on buses, ferries, light rail and in a taxi if it is confined in a box, basket or other container. However, permission is still required by staff or the driver.allows small pets on light rail, buses and ferries inside a carrier. In Brisbane dogs are allowed on board CityCats and ferries during off-peak times at 8.30am–3.30pm and 7pm–6am Monday to Friday and all weekend. Pets are not allowed on trains and buses
