The National Transport Authority (NTA) is the transport operating authority for Greater Dublin and the public transport licensing agency for Ireland. NTA has announced a proposal to relax its existing rules on pets on public transport. The proposed changes, which are expected to come into effect from 2027, will allow small dogs, cats, or other small animals that don’t threaten passenger safety to travel on buses, trains and Luas services. Large dogs could also be allowed to travel given they are kept on a lead and muzzled, although they may be refused on busier services.
